About People's Legacy Credit Union
A proposed community development credit union for Atlantic City and Atlantic County.
Status: Organizing phase. Not yet chartered or accepting deposits.
Our Mission
Community-owned finance for working families
People's Legacy emerged from a simple observation: too many working families in Atlantic City lack access to fair financial services. We're organizing a credit union that serves our neighbors, keeps capital circulating locally, and treats every member with dignity.
Why Now
Atlantic City needs community finance
The gaming and hospitality industries employ thousands in hourly positions. Many households experience income volatility. Payday lenders prey on those with limited options. A community development credit union can change this—offering payroll savings, fair loans, and services designed for how our members live.
What Is a Credit Union?
A credit union is a nonprofit, member-owned financial cooperative. Unlike banks owned by shareholders seeking profit, credit unions return earnings to members through better rates, lower fees, and improved services. Each member has one vote regardless of account balance.
What Makes PLCU Different?
We're organizing as a Community Development Credit Union (CDCU) with an explicit mission to serve low-income and underserved populations. This shapes everything—from payroll-based savings products to our focus on financial inclusion and local wealth-building.
